Earned settlement is announced policy (CP 1707), not yet law. Rule changes are expected from December 2026 and through 2027, and applications are ordinarily decided under the Rules in force at the date of decision. The earnings test uses the years before you apply; this tool treats the years you enter as those years. Estimate only, not immigration advice.
How this calculator works
The today result uses your route’s current qualifying period and the 28-day early application rule. The earned settlement result applies the CP 1707 pathways in this order: criminality, then public funds and immigration breaches (20 years), then earnings of £125,141 in 3 of 4 years (3 years), £50,271 in 3 of 5 years, public service occupations, British connections and the care worker transitional rule (5 years), and finally the £12,571 or £25,142 household contribution test (10 years).
| Pathway | Main tests |
|---|---|
| 3 years | £125,141 in 3 of the last 4 years, on Skilled Worker, Global Talent or Innovator Founder |
| 5 years | £50,271 in 3 of the last 5 years; eligible public service occupation; partner of a British citizen; UK Ancestry; BN(O); care workers who joined before May 2025 earning £25,000 |
| 10 years | £12,571 in 5 of the last 7 years, or £25,142 household income |
| 20 years | Specified public funds in the last 5 years, or an adult immigration breach |
What it cannot tell you
- Whether transitional provisions will protect an application already made when the rules change.
- Exact public funds exemptions, which will be published before implementation.
- Whether you are in the 3-year Highest Talent Group, which is under Migration Advisory Committee review.
- How absences will be treated under the new framework. For today’s 180-day rule, use the ILR absence calculator.
