Privacy Policy
How ILR Calculator UK collects, uses and protects your information, and the choices you have.
Last updated: June 2026
The short version
- Everything you type into our calculators stays in your browser. Dates, absences and route selections are never sent to us, stored, or shared.
- We do not sell your personal data, and we do not pass your details to advisers, law firms or lead buyers.
- You do not need an account. We only hold personal data if you choose to email us or use the contact form.
- We use cookies for basic site function, for analytics, and, where you consent, for advertising.
This privacy notice explains how ILR Calculator UK (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, stores and protects information about you when you visit ilrcalculatoruk.co.uk (the “Site”). It is published in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
Contents
1. Who we are
ILR Calculator UK is an independent UK-based publisher of free Indefinite Leave to Remain calculators and guidance for people navigating the UK settlement process. We are an editorial publisher and not a law firm or a regulated immigration adviser.
The data controller for personal data collected through this Site is ILR Calculator UK, an independent publisher based in the United Kingdom. You can contact us about any data protection matter by email at [email protected], or through our contact page.
2. Information we collect
- Information you submit, your name, email address, chosen subject and the content of your message when you complete our contact form or email us directly.
- Technical data, IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring URL and pages visited, collected through standard server logs and analytics.
- Cookie data, information stored on your device by us and by third parties, as described in sections 4 to 6.
We do not ask for, and ask that you do not send us, sensitive personal information such as passport numbers, Home Office reference numbers, immigration history or health information. If you send such information anyway, we will delete it once your enquiry is resolved.
3. Calculator inputs, processed in your browser only
The dates, absences, visa routes and other figures you enter into our calculators and interactive tools are processed entirely within your own web browser using JavaScript. These values are not transmitted to our servers, not written to any database, not stored in your browser between visits, and not shared with any third party. When you close or refresh the page, they are gone. This is a deliberate design choice: you should be able to check your settlement position without disclosing your immigration history to anyone.
4. Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device. We use them in the following categories:
| Category | Purpose | Consent needed |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Core site function, security, and remembering your cookie choices | No, exempt under PECR |
| Analytics | Understanding which pages are used, so we can improve them | Yes |
| Advertising | Serving and measuring adverts, including personalised adverts | Yes |
Non-essential cookies are only set where you have given consent through our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choices at any time using the cookie settings link on the Site, and you can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, though doing so may affect how the Site works.
5. Advertising
This Site displays advertising in order to remain free to use. Advertising is served by Google and other third-party vendors. In connection with this:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve adverts based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve adverts to you based on your visit to this Site and/or other sites on the internet.
- Where required, personalised advertising is only used with your consent, collected through our cookie banner.
You have choices about this:
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google My Ad Center or Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
- You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
We do not share your name, email address or the contents of your enquiries with advertisers, and advertisers have no access to anything you enter into our calculators.
6. Analytics
We use analytics to understand, in aggregate, which pages and tools people find useful. Analytics cookies are only set with your consent. Our analytics provider acts as a processor on our behalf, and analytics data is used only in aggregate, we do not use it to identify individual visitors.
7. How we use your information
- To respond to enquiries, corrections and feedback you send us.
- To operate, secure and maintain the Site, and to detect and prevent abuse, spam and fraud.
- To understand aggregate usage patterns so we can improve our calculators and guides.
- To display advertising that funds the Site, subject to your cookie choices.
- To comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.
We do not use your details for marketing, we do not add you to mailing lists without your explicit request, and we do not pass your enquiry to any adviser, law firm, or third party seeking to sell you services.
8. Lawful basis for processing
We rely on the following lawful bases under Article 6 of the UK GDPR:
- Legitimate interests, to respond to your enquiry, to operate, secure and improve the Site, and to prevent abuse, in a way you would reasonably expect and that does not override your rights.
- Consent, for non-essential cookies, including analytics and advertising cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligation, where processing is necessary to comply with UK law.
9. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share your enquiry details with immigration advisers, solicitors, lead-generation companies or any other third party seeking to market to you. Where we suggest getting professional advice, we link you to free public registers such as the GOV.UK register of immigration advisers, we receive no payment and pass on no data.
We do use a small number of service providers who process data on our behalf under contract:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Formspree | Delivering contact form submissions to our inbox |
| Website hosting provider | Hosting the Site and maintaining server logs |
| Analytics provider | Aggregate website analytics, where you have consented |
| Advertising services, where you have consented |
We may also disclose information where required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.
10. Data retention
- Enquiry correspondence, retained for up to 24 months from your last contact, then deleted.
- Server logs, retained for up to 30 days for security and abuse prevention.
- Aggregate analytics, retained in line with our analytics provider’s settings, up to 26 months.
- Calculator inputs, never retained, as they are not collected.
11. International transfers
Some of our service providers are based outside the United Kingdom. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or appropriate safeguards such as the International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
12. Security
We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the limited data we hold, including HTTPS/TLS encryption in transit, access controls and secure hosting. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, which is another reason our calculators are built not to collect your data in the first place.
13. Your rights under UK GDPR
You have the right to:
- Access, request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification, ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Erasure, request deletion of your personal data in defined circumstances.
- Restriction, ask us to limit how we process your data.
- Data portability, receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Object, object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent, at any time, where processing is based on consent, including cookie consent.
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
14. Children
The Site is intended for adults dealing with UK settlement applications. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this notice to reflect changes in law, our practices or the operation of the Site. The “last updated” date above shows the most recent revision, and we will highlight material changes on the Site.
16. Contact us
For any privacy or data protection query, email:
We aim to acknowledge data protection requests promptly and to respond fully within one month, as required by the UK GDPR.
Please note: we cannot advise on individual immigration cases and you should not send us case documents or Home Office reference numbers.
