Cookie Policy
What cookies we use, why we use them, and how to control them.
Last updated: June 2026
The short version
- Essential cookies keep the site working and are always on.
- Analytics and advertising cookies are only set if you agree through our cookie banner.
- Nothing you type into a calculator is ever saved in a cookie, in your browser, or on our servers.
- You can change or withdraw your choices at any time.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, tablet or phone) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently, to remember your preferences, to measure how a site is used, and to support advertising. Similar technologies, including local storage, session storage and pixel tags, work on the same principle and are covered by this policy.
How we use cookies
ILR Calculator UK is free to use, and we keep it that way partly through advertising. We use a small number of cookies to keep the Site secure and working, to understand in aggregate how it is used, and, where you consent, to serve and measure adverts.
Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR, we only set non-essential cookies (analytics and advertising) after you have given consent through our cookie banner. Strictly necessary cookies are exempt from that requirement because the Site cannot function without them.
Your calculator inputs are never stored. The dates and details you enter into our tools are processed entirely in your browser and are not written to a cookie, saved between visits, or transmitted to us. Close the tab and they are gone. See our privacy policy for the full detail.
Categories of cookies
Strictly necessary Always on
Essential for the Site to operate. These include cookies that maintain session integrity, support secure form submission, protect against spam and abuse, and remember the cookie choices you have made. You cannot opt out of these, though you can block them in your browser, the Site may then not work correctly.
Analytics and performance Consent required
These collect aggregate information about how visitors use the Site, which pages are most read, how long people stay, and how they navigate between guides and calculators. We use this only to improve the Site, and we do not use it to identify individual visitors. These cookies are set only if you accept them.
Advertising Consent required
These are set by third-party advertising providers, including Google, to serve adverts, limit how often you see the same advert, and measure advert performance. Where you consent to personalised advertising, these cookies may also be used to show adverts based on your previous browsing. These cookies are set only if you accept them.
Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by third parties rather than by us. Where you have consented, this includes advertising cookies set by Google and its advertising partners, and cookies set by our analytics provider. We do not control these cookies directly, and their use is governed by the third party’s own privacy policy.
| Set by | Purpose | Consent |
|---|---|---|
| This site | Session integrity, security, and storing your cookie preferences | Not required |
| Analytics provider | Aggregate usage measurement | Required |
| Google and advertising partners | Serving, capping and measuring adverts; personalised advertising where consented | Required |
You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Managing and withdrawing consent
You can change your mind at any time:
- On this Site, reopen the cookie settings from the cookie link on the Site to change or withdraw your consent.
- Personalised adverts from Google, manage these at Google My Ad Center or Google Ads Settings.
- Other advertising vendors, opt out at youronlinechoices.com (UK and EU) or aboutads.info/choices.
Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before you withdrew it.
Controlling cookies in your browser
You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings. The exact steps depend on your browser:
- Google ChromeSettings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies
- Mozilla FirefoxSettings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Apple SafariSettings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Microsoft EdgeSettings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
For general guidance on managing cookies across browsers, see aboutcookies.org. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Site working.
Do Not Track signals
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is no industry-wide standard for how sites should respond to it. Because we require consent before setting any non-essential cookie, no analytics or advertising cookies are set unless you opt in, whether or not DNT is enabled.
Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or in applicable law. The “last updated” date above shows the most recent revision, and we will highlight material changes on the Site.
