What we can and cannot help with

We are an independent editorial publisher, not a law firm or a regulated immigration adviser. Being clear about that saves you time:

We can help with

  • How one of our calculators works or how it reached a result
  • Reporting a mistake, ambiguity or out-of-date figure on the site
  • Suggesting a guide or tool you would find useful
  • Accessibility problems or technical faults
  • Press, media and research enquiries

We cannot help with

  • Advice on your individual immigration case
  • Reviewing your documents, evidence or draft application
  • Telling you whether your application will be granted
  • Contacting or chasing the Home Office on your behalf
  • Anything that amounts to regulated immigration advice
Need advice on your own case?

Only a regulated adviser can advise you on your circumstances. You can search the GOV.UK register of immigration advisers, maintained by the Immigration Advice Authority (IAA, formerly the OISC), or find a solicitor through the Law Society’s Find a Solicitor service. Both registers are free to search.

Reporting a correction

If something on the site looks wrong or out of date, please tell us and include the page address and, if you can, a link to the GOV.UK page you are relying on. We check every report against the rules in force, correct anything that needs it, and update the review date shown on the page. Read more about our method on our about page.

Independent & free

We cannot advise on your case, but we can point you to someone who can

For complex matters such as excess absences, refusals, or good character concerns, speak to an adviser regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority or a solicitor. Both public registers are free to search.
